Book Review-Vandita Satish Bhosale, Pune District Education Association’s Law College, Hadapsar, Pune-28.
The diary of young girl is a profound and historically significant work-that offers the insights of the life of a young Jewish teenage girl name Anne who was hiding with her family during the Nazi occupation of Netherlands. The dairy was gifted by parents on her birthday. Until the family go to hiding the Anne lives a normal life. She has a school, classmates, and a family who loves her. But things get changed when they get confined to annex. She shared her feelings, emotions and experiences during that period offering powerful glimpse into the horror of war, fear and isolation.
Throughout the diary we see her struggle to accept the terms of her new life. Her relationships and living in a small space with a very few facilities. It is a best book to those of us who never face such hardships but need to understand the atrocities experienced by people and dangerous of prejudice and discrimination during war. It also highlights those who risked themselves to hide and protect Jews.
The book is of great significance serving a powerful testament of human spirit in the face of adversity. The book is the symbol of strength, strangeness and optimism. It highlights the value of human rights and the freedom. The book provides a unique perspective, documenting the daily experiences of Jewish families which were hiding during the world war 2. It serves as the himportant historical document. Her diary continues to inspire and educate us ensuring that the lesson of Holocaust will never be forgotten.
Despite sad and adverse circumstance Anne maintains the sense of hope and optimism. She believed that people are good at heart. She is bold and courageous girl. Finding solace in her friendships & dreams for the future. Confined to small place Anne used her diary as a means of self-expression.
The book explores universal themes of love, hope, loss and human condition making it relevant to the readers of all ages. It is, must read book. It is not only an ordinary book but a human document which strength the human spirit and signifies the real value of freedom that. It gives us powerful, massage of self-belief.
I would like to mention my most favorite lines from the book ‘Where there’s life. It fulfills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again.’’ The last entry is dated August 1, 1944. In this entry, Anne reflects on how other perceive her, describing herself as “little bundle of contradictions”.
Anne’s diary was found after her arrest on August 4, 1944, When Nazi Captured the 8 people hiding in the secret annex. Her father was the only survivor of the family. After war Mipe Gies and Bep Voskuijl retrieved her Dairies and gave them to Otto. The book has become a world classic, motivating the people around the globe.
