House of Cards is an all-time true story. The story is as simple as the author Sudha Murty herself. She beautifully and gradually opens the emotions before the readers in their own space of the surrounding environment and situations present at that time. It’s a story of a brilliant girl who has been routed into Indian traditional cultures and values. She is not only brilliant but an understanding and hard-worker, beautiful girl who not only loves her husband and her child, but also loves her profession, work, values, principles of life, her attitude towards things and situations. The author has explained how the life of one lady is dramatically changed after marriage. How one lady has to fight to adjust her routines filled with parenting, professionalism, household responsibility to her family members?
In the story, Mrudula is a girl from a well-settled family. She has been a brilliant student since her childhood. She was interested in becoming a teacher and became a teacher. She fell in love with a doctor who was not physically normal, but a beautiful girl accepted him. As he was a doctor, he spent much of his time and money on his education and Mrudula had supported him from her salary from a government school.
Along with human history, the author has also described the beauty of Aldahali’, in Karnatak state, and surrounding countryside. She focused on the traditional life of Mudula’s family, her father’s value of family as a responsible person. She very well justified the characters of Mrudila, Bhimanna, Rukanmini, Laxmi, Amma, Shankar, Sanjay, Anita, Alex, Ratna and Shishir.
How a woman’s dreams get changed according to her family circumstances in spite of her highly qualified status.
The story reflects how in marriage people prefer either the physical beauty or the richness of brides and brooms. Alex and Anita’s love story reveals that being a doctor is not sufficient. Being owner of a big hospital is necessary for a doctor to stand in society and get more money in less time. Becoming a doctor and serving society is not a dream of today’s doctors.
Mridula and Sanjay’s story very gradually proceeds. Mrudula is a very understanding and mature character from a value-oriented family. How her doctor husband considers her profession recessive and considr her support in his decision. He took her financial support during his study days and he achieved sound financial status, he forgot her support and made her feel lonely, recessive. He had no time for life, he was busy only making, investing and increasing his money.
One Sanjay’s hand was not normal, but Mrudula never made him feel inferior. But at in the end of the story, Mrudula was feeling lonely and inferior in her own home and with her own husband and son. Son was also had the influence of his father’s attitude of only faith in money and cost.
The story reflects how people get changed when they get more money. A person with values and culture remain constant in all situations, but people with low values forget their social attitude.Sensitive and social Mrudula was at the, set of mental depression but made efforts, broken the situation and she recovered. She creates new thoughts in life in her own way.
