Review:
The reason behind choosing the book was despite having a background of art. I’ve never came across any sort of content which philosophies it systematically. The name of the books clearly states the nature of it. What is art? What is an Artist? and many more questions like these are asked and tried to answer it also. But the book doesn’t claim the definition of anything but tries to explain it in social, Political and Philosophical Aspects. The book helps us understand various understanding of art in various time periods and in different cultural groups. Both the aspects have been discussed in order to understand art as a whole which are the thought of it and then. Its Practicality. The style that has been used to present the ideas about art and the things which are related to it, is very interesting and engaging. In today’s terms. The ‘Interface’ of the book is different from other regular books in an obvious manner. It is because the author might have thought that the content is about, art and artists why shouldn’t be the way in which it is being presented, artistic. The style is very similar to the way in which all the ‘comics’ are being or have been written. The concepts are explained by the philosophers as if they themselves hare explaining to us. This type of writing can be very amusing and easy to understand, make it interesting of the same time.
Due to the limit of time, the topics that have been covered are limited. The book truly have an amazing and useful into on art but only some of it has been read.
1) Art- There is no definite or exact definition of art, given by any philosophers of scientists. But when looked across the time it is realized the it is an Visual representation of world itself. The examples are given from different times for example they have mentioned the art of a cave person and also compared it to modern art which is closer to the naturalistic approach of representation at the physical world. But common thing across them would be the urge to express something through it and this thought in very insightful. These art forms represents their cultures from the period in which it has been produced.
2) Artist an Aesthetic-
In these topics the urge of the artist is explained where the causal conditions of it are discussed. The ‘why’ of it is been described. what artists were at their contemporary period and what kind of impact did they made on their society. They were considered as an intellectuals which had the capacity to produce something. Later on the aesthetic value of a work of art was discussed by many famous Philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, Marks and Engels. Their definition and opinions on what art is and its importance. In our daily life as well as social life. Truly the book has explored every possible way of describing and understand art the way it is. Using Very interesting method of presentation. As an introduction and more, the book has useful information on it, which makes it a ‘Must Read’.
