A Realistic and amazing book “To Do Something Beautiful” written by Rohini Hensman. Talking about the author herself, she is a writer, independent scholar and activist working on worker’s right and feminism. She has written 10 books with her recent contribution “Unions and global capitalism”.
The book “To Do Something Beautiful” is inspred by the lives and struggles of working-class women, men and children in Bombay during the 1980s. Its is a social history novel with a large cast of characters, a compilation of life story of women who are initially isolated came together to figit against poverty, domestic violence, harsement and exploitation at work. Their multifarious projects do not end with the novel, but continues beyond its last pages.
What made me read the book? the title itself. I know, we all know the saying, not to judge a book by its cover but for me it was the foremost thing that inspired me to go ahead and read the book. The book not only presents different cases of life situations but changes your point of view to look towards it. We as humans are so much indulged in our small space, in our daily routines that we forget to take a pause, a stop and see the depth of beauty that surrounds us. The book gave this priceless oppourtunity, where I came across lifes of different people who were way more hard working and struggling than us in the city. It showed me around about to look at a situation in varioous ways. It made me feel gratitude towards my parents, teachers and family. It planted a sense of thankfulness for what I have, for what I am today. A simple book that change your mind set positively!
It was a difficult task for me to find any thing changeable but addition of some pictures speaking a 1000 words about and carving the message of the book more beautifully will be wonderful. At end it is a book that is going to remain with me in my memories, values and at the top of my bookshelf.
I recommend this book to every reader who wishes to have thier own perspective about the book and to take dive into it to know more. Thankyou!
