“To Sir with Love” is an autobiographical novel authored by Eustace Edward Ricardo Braithwaite, also known as E.R. Braithwaite. E.R. Braithwaite was a Guyanese-born British-American writer. His books were well known for describing social conditions and racial discrimination in society.

“To Sir with Love” is an autobiographical novel. The narrator is an engineer by profession and had served in the Second World War as a Royal Air Force pilot. After the war, he faced difficulty seeking employment. Hence, to make both ends meet, he accepts the job of a teacher in a rough London East End school.

The school is full of troublemaking students who ridiculed and bullied the narrator. This caused the narrator to scold the students often, causing a constant feud between them. However, the narrator soon developed a calm demeanor and adopted versatile methods of teaching, which helped him gain their respect and cooperation. They soon developed a healthy and strong bond.
