Chapter No 1- A Path Well Paved The Chapter 1 tells us about the Tata group have 150 years, not because they did not make mistake but their errors were portals of discovery. In this 150 years journey Tata has tried to entered in every sector of business i.e Luxury Taj Hotel at Mumbai, India’s first steel plant at Jamshedpur, Tata Airlines, India’s first Airline Company and many more venture where Tata Group is flourishing. There are four distinguish characteristics emerged that clearly mark out Tata Way. 4 P’s Pioneering, Purposive, Principled and Perfect. All these 4 P’s have been the foundation of Tata Groups success.
Chapter No 2- Tata Indica, the Very First Indian Car. This story is about manufacturing of the India’s firstcar Tata Indica. He discussed the strategic decisions and challenges faced by Tata Motorsin creating a car which was especially to Indian consumers’ needs and preferences. The Patriotic movement of every Indian was seen as it was India’s first ever car. A Movement of pride. Ratan Tata took the courageous decision even many people opposed him and proved them. From designing the car to the manufacturing place, a whole story is narrated.
Chapter No 3- Uplifting Tales from Okhamandal : This story is about the establishment of chemical industry in city of Mithapur in Okhamandal, is the home to Tata Chemicals. It was really difficult to establish the factory of Chemicals, fertilizers, salt and other consumer products due to the shortage of water, but by overcoming various difficulty Mithapur has become one of the finest places to living spaces. The Tata Chemical Society For Rural Development i.e ( TCSRD) has helped many community to develop and overcome their problems.
Chapter No 4 – The Tribulations of Tata Finance : This story is about Tata Finance, a prominent financialinstitution in India. The author explained the difficulties and drawbacks faced by TataFinance which include financial crises and operational failure. He also described how theorganization overcame all challenges through leadership and strategic planning.
Chapter No 5- Tanishq Sets the Gold Standard.: The story is about the jewellery brand established by Tata Group. This story of Tanishq, the vision and courage that powered it, and how it overcome all its early errors and struggles to set the gold standard for India. As there is lot of scope for jewellery in Indian Market, the Tata Group found the gap and established the market for jewellery. In 1996 to 2000 it was tough time for the Tanishq but the belief, focus and innovation it was cope up and new face of Tanishq was seen.
Chapter No 6- Second Careers for Intelligent Women.: This story is about explaining the stories of womenwho embarked second career after a break for personal reasons. He described a woman’s journey, determination, achievement, and re-entering the workforce after a break. The maintakeaways are empowerment, skill utilization and society contribution. Tata Group started the SCIP for women’s, take who have taken a career break with flexible platform to return to the corporate sector. Tata Group has created the Great Platform for Women Empowerment.
Chapter No 7- EKA: Birth of an Indian Supercomputer : This story is about how EKA was born- a story whose end yet to be written. TCS (Tata Consultancy Service) turned into global information technology powerhouse. The supercomputer was not only national pride but also the profitable. After the decision the major problem in the path was founder quit the EKA Project but Tata decided to persist and go head. Despite facing all these difficulties Tata made it by ranking 4thfastest supercomputer in the world, beating machines from every other continent.
Chapter No 8- Tetley Enters the Tata Fold: This story is about the acquisition of Tetley, the second-largesttea brand globally by the Tata Group. He described the detailed strategy involved in theacquisition, negotiation process and integration of Tetley into Tata’s business. Tetley become first company that launched teabags in the UK, in 1953. It shows the Tata Tea Indian Brand of tea both were different from each other. But the Tata Tea created history by acquiring the global brand. And Tata Group proved many more Berlin Walls can be broken down, if pursued tenaciously with head and heart.
Chapter No 9- Tata Steel Wins the Deming Prize: This story is about Tata Steel winning the Deming Prize, A prize given for quality management. The author explained the journey of Tata Steel inTotal Quality Management (TQM) principles, improvement in the manufacturing process,and the importance of winning the Deming Prize for global recognition in Steel industries. The credit that Tata Steel gives to the Manpower in Tata Group for the consistent maintenance TQM of steel. Tata Steel become first steel company outside Japan to be awarded the Deming Prize. And this was very proud movement for India.
Chapter No 10- Epilogue- One Day In Kolkata : This story is about the Author’s Memorable Occasion day in the Kolkata with Sir Ratan Tata , he shares his experience of sharing dias with Ratan Tata. It was the Annual General Meeting of Tata Global Beverages Limited. Appreciation of work at Tata Medical Center was done. Even a young shareholder proudly shared the experience of his about the bribe asked by the Tax Officer for Statutory Approval but refused , he told that he got inspiration from Tata Group and Ratan Tata to principled conduct of business.
This Book is based on Tata Group eight stories which are very inspiring and motivating for Entrepreneurship and starting our own business, thinking out of the box and taking risk and inventing something new. Tata Group has always proven it’s patriotism towards India and making India proud. The Author has used very simple language in the book which is understood by anyone and the book is best for the person or students who want to become entrepreneur.All the eight stories teaches about value and ethics in corporate, Respect for each and everyone. The visionary leadership by heads in Tata Group has given strong message to be stronger leader and take the appropriate decision for the situation which may come in the way. Therefore reading this book gives inspiration to innovate new things and move towards our goals in life.
