Let’s dive into this journey through the story from its opening chapters to a thoughtful review.
The book comprises of the 4 imaginary characters depicted in this story – the mice: Sniff and Scurry, and Littlepeople: Hem and Haw looking for the cheese.
These characters are intended to represent the simple and complex parts of ourselves in real life. Here the “cheese” being metaphor for what we want to achieve in life.
Every Morning Sniff, Scurry, Hem and Haw used to leave their homes and raced out into the Maze looking for their favourite cheese. Also, one day they all find the Station full of the cheese. Sniff and Scurry regular used to wake up early and enjoyed the cheese. In the beginning Hem and Haw also raced towards station early morning but later they awoke each day little slower and walked towards station
Once morning they arrived at Station and discovered there was no cheese. Sniff and Scurry were not really surprised they looked at each other and removed the shoes and went off. The mice did not overanalyse things as people do. To the mice the problem and answer were both simple. They were quickly off in search of New Cheese.
Later Hem and Haw (Littlepeople) arrived at station and were unprepared for what they see ‘NO CHEESE’. both started yelling and started thinking finding cheese is not a deal for them. . As they just assumed it would be there always. They could not believe it. How could this have happened?
Littlepeople spent long day to decide what to do next. Hem and Haw went home that night hungry. Eventually as the day went on and gradually, they gotten weaker. Finally, Haw Opened his eyes, looked around and try analysing the things. As Hem was on the same page who denies, and resists change as he fears it will lead to something worse. And Haw is the person who learns and adapt in time when he sees changing can lead to something better.
In all these days the sniff and scurry were on their way to find their New Cheese and enjoying it. The Quicker you let go of old Cheese, The Sooner you find New Cheese.
So, who were you in the story? Sniff, Scurry, Hem or Haw?
Every time I read this book I relate with different character from these 4 as per the situation.
It leaves you feeling excited and get ready to go out and find your own cheese.

Who Moved my Cheese?
Who Moved my Cheese?- An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life is the topic of a book written by Spencer Johnson, M.D., and published by Vermilion Publishers. In the book, cheese is a metaphorical representation of what people want to have in their life. This might mean a good job, an affectionate relationship, wealth or ownership, good health or even spiritual tranquility.
The title therefore suggests that occasionally the “cheese” in our life will be moved and therefore one has to be prepared to deal with the change. As the topic suggests, Dr Spencer Johnson provides an “amazing way” to deal with this change in the workplace and in our lives. Spencer does this by showing us how to foresee change, adapt to the change, enjoy it and be forever willing to change immediately when one is called to do so. (Hartwell, 2010)
The story of Who Moved My Cheese starts with a reunion of high school friends. After the reunion, the friends decide to have lunch and they end up chatting in an exceptionally practical manner about the things they have undergone since they left high school. Although they have all lived different lives, they all agree that things turned out differently than they anticipated.
All of them agree that it has been hard for them to change when things change around them. One of the friends named Carlos tells the group that people resist change because they are afraid of changes in their life. This surprises everyone since Carlos was the Captain of the football team and therefore fear should not have been a part of his life. (Hartwell, 2010)
While in the process of catching up, one of the friends called Michael decides to narrate the story of Who Moved My Cheese to the rest of the group. The story consists of four characters comprising of two mice named Sniff and Scurry and two small beings called “Haw” and “Hem”. All these characters live in a maze where they spend their time searching for cheese to sustain them. Both the mice and the little people value the cheese since it means everything to them.
