Book review on MY GITA
“My Gita” is a fascinating book written by Devdutt Pattanaik. My Gita helps readers to
understand the Bhagavad Gita in an easier and simpler way and while reading ‘My Gita’ one
can grasp the important knowledge and philosophy given directly by Krishna to Arjun in very
concise manner. My Gita is a unique and insightful exploration of the Bhagavad Gita, one of
the most revered texts in Indian philosophy. Published in 2015, the book presents a modern
and personal interpretation of the Gita, making it more accessible to contemporary readers.
The book is divided into 18 chapters, each focusing on specific aspects of Gita. The author
has used a few shlokas from the original Geeta and presented it using many examples,
illustrations and stories.
There are so few chapters from ‘MY GITA’ that drew my attention,One of them is Chapter 2
“You and I have been here before”
In this particular chapter The author talks about the Immortality of Our souls (Atma) He
explains to us through the Shloka that Just like we change clothes everyday our atma
changes the body after death.
Chapter 15 “You and I Compare”
In this chapter we get to know the human imagination as how we can turn a rock into a deity
and just like that how we can think of a problem as an opportunity to learn more.
This book is special because we got to know what Arjun has learnt from Krishna and not
what Sanjay has learnt. Arjun was present there and was asking questions intellectually and
Sanjay was just listening to the narration and was unable to understand the meanings of it
and that’s why this book aims to provide that knowledge which Arjuna got from the supreme
Godhead. The other strength of this book is,Mr.Pattanaik made Gita more relevant in the
modern time.
If you will read this book you will get to know the difference between the love of Radha and
love of Yashoda. You will get to know about Vatsalya Prem. You will get to know why Mr
Pattnaik says “The Gita does not speak of changing the world. It speaks of appreciating the
world that is always changing.”
This book is perfect for those who have interest in spirituality and philosophy.
The readers who were looking for an easy and accessible introduction of Bhagavad Gita.
Anyone seeking guidance and wisdom for everyday life. And for all those krishna devotee.
In conclusion, “My Gita” by Devdutt Pattanaik is a profound and insightful commentary on
the Bhagavad Gita. Pattanaik’s unique perspective and engaging writing style make the book
an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of this timeless
scripture. By applying the Gita’s teachings to modern life, Pattanaik shows us that spirituality
and philosophy can be practical and relevant to our daily lives. Must read this book and grab
the knowledge.
